Secure and Usable Bio-Passwords based on Confidence Interval
نویسندگان
چکیده
The most popular user-authentication method is the password. Many authentication systems try to enhance their security by enforcing a strong password policy, and by using the password as the first factor, something you know, with the second factor being something you have. However, a strong password policy and a multi-factor authentication system can make it harder for a user to remember the password and login in. In this paper a bio-password-based scheme is proposed as a unique authentication method, which uses biometrics and confidence interval sets to enhance the security of the log-in process and make it easier as well. The method offers a user-friendly solution for creating and registering strong passwords without the user having to memorize them. Here we also show the results of our experiments which demonstrate the efficiency of this method and how it can be used to protect against a variety of malicious attacks.

متن کاملUsability vs. Security: The Everlasting Trade-Off in the Context of Apple iOS Mobile Hotspots
Passwords have to be secure and usable at the same time, a trade-off that is long known. There are many approaches to avoid this trade-off, e.g., to advice users on generating strong passwords and to reject user passwords that are weak. The same usability/security trade-off arises in scenarios where passwords are generated by machines but exchanged by humans, as is the case in pre-shared key (P...
متن کاملToward a secure and usable cloud-based password manager for web browsers
Web users are confronted with the daunting challenges of creating, remembering, and using more and more strong passwords than ever before in order to protect their valuable assets on different websites. Password manager, particularly Browser-based Password Manager (BPM), is one of the most popular approaches designed to address these challenges by saving users’ passwords and later automatically...
متن کاملA World with Many Authentication Schemes
Usability and security challenges with standard text passwords have led researchers and professionals to consider alternative authentication schemes. This thesis explores the various challenges inherent in supporting a practical reality of authentication scheme diversity. We address these challenges by proposing the following solutions aimed at providing users with a usable and secure authentic...
